Empowered for Purpose: Inside the Nsroma Program 2025 Journey

The Nsroma Program 2025 unfolded as more than a calendar of meetingsโ€”it became a transformational journey for women committed to growth, purpose, and impact. From March through December, the program intentionally nurtured leadership, spiritual grounding, entrepreneurship, communication, and financial wisdom, shaping what it truly means to be an empowered woman in todayโ€™s world.

Setting the Tone: Empowered for Purpose

The year began on a powerful note with an International Womenโ€™s Day webinar themed Empowered for Purpose. Facilitated by Mrs. Mildred Mensah-Mannoh, the session challenged participants to examine whether their careers, relationships, and faith were genuinely aligned with their purpose. Her message was both affirming and confrontingโ€”growth must be pursued deliberately in every season of life.

Central to her message was the concept of the 3 Mโ€™s: Mission, Marriage, and Ministryโ€”pillars that anchor a life of purpose. The reminder was clear: when purpose becomes the anchor, life feels lighter and direction becomes clearer.

Reflection, Accountability, and Sisterhood

In April, the program shifted into a reflective and grounding phase under the guidance of Dr. Ellen Hagan. Through reflections on the When Women Speak documentary and a detailed orientation, participants were reminded that transformation requires discipline and accountability.

A defining moment was the honest review of participant engagement, reinforcing the importance of commitment. The session was further enriched by live testimonies from trailblazing Nsromas whose personal stories brought the power of sisterhood and growth to life.

Becoming Her: Navigating Power, Purpose, and Growth

The first in-person gathering in May, led by Mrs. Joyce Boeh-Ocansey, addressed a reality many women quietly wrestle withโ€”balancing ambition, career, and family. Drawing from personal experience, she emphasized clarity of priorities, sustainable decision-making, and excellence in every assignment.

Anchored in Philippians 4:13, her session highlighted silent prayer, trusted counsel, and intentional focus as essential tools for growth. Her mantra, โ€œApproach every assignment like itโ€™s the World Cup,โ€ became a defining takeawayโ€”excellence is not situational; it is a lifestyle.

From Follower to Leader: A Mindset Shift

Juneโ€™s online session introduced a pivotal shift in thinking. Mrs. Joycelyn Mends-Ainoo reframed leadership as influence rather than position, echoing the words of John C. Maxwell that leadership is fundamentally about impact.

Participants were challenged to examine their daily postureโ€”are they waiting to be led, or choosing to take responsibility? The session reinforced a powerful truth: leadership begins with mindset, not titles.

Faith-Driven Entrepreneurship and Practical Skills

As the year progressed, the Nsroma Program became increasingly practical. The Proverbs 31 Entrepreneur session in September helped participants align faith with enterprise, offering tools for purpose discovery and entrepreneurial direction.

This was followed by a high-energy Public Speaking Masterclass in October with Mr. Dei, where confidence, articulation, and presence took center stage. By November, the focus shifted to financial stewardship, with Mrs. Evangelina Larvie Nutsugah equipping participants with everyday money-management skills grounded in discipline, wisdom, and faith. The Nsroma Woman: Prepared for Impact

From leadership to finances, from mindset to ministry, each session of the Nsroma Program 2025 built intentionally on the next. The result is the Nsroma womanโ€”grounded, confident, disciplined, and purpose-driven.

More than a program, Nsroma remains a sisterhood committed to raising women who are not only empowered for themselves but prepared to influence their families, communities, and spheres of leadership with clarity and conviction.

Welcome Address for Millicent Clarkeโ€™s Book Launch

Opening and Professional Introduction

“Good evening, distinguished guests, and thank you for joining us today to celebrate a significant moment in the career of our dear friend and colleague, Millicent Clarke. It is truly an honor to welcome each of you here in Accra, to mark the launch of a book that is as much a gift to us as it is a testament to Millicentโ€™s remarkable journey.

Millicentโ€™s career spans continents and industries. Her professional accomplishments are well known, but her story goes beyond titles and achievements. She has always embodied the resilience, authenticity, and wisdom of a leader who not only climbs but also extends a hand to those around her, helping others find their own paths forward. I think that is what truly sets her apart โ€“ her unwavering commitment to lift others as she rises.ย

I am privy to how she has continued with the legacy of her parents by single-handedly developing some less privileged members of her extended family, spending good money to help in their education till they could stand on their own feet.ย  She does put her money where her mouth is.ย  There is another story that is begging to be told where she helped a young lady with opportunities in her career after her dad had been knocked down tragically by a car in a foreign land.ย  She helped her pick up the pieces and this young woman has also become an adawurma to her siblings and family. She has a way of making people special and accepted.ย  She has been mentoring Nana Adjoa by daughter and when I was celebrating her at her call to the bar recently in a way that made her tear up, but maybe some may have found unorthodox, Millie exclaimedโ€ฆ ho! wo si wo y3 extra, I will show you extraโ€ฆ if I were there I would have said This my daughter was not bathed with water when a baby ooo she was bathed with milkโ€โ€ฆ

Her insights are invaluable, and this book captures them in ways that only Millicent can.”

I admire the courage to publish in this book the not so positive feedback she has received over the years which may not put her in a good light together with the positive ones; just to allow people to learn from her journey โ€“ a journey that talks about different leadership styles she has been privy too.ย  Some that will astonish you!.ย  I doff my hat to you, Millie. You have always encouraged those around you to โ€˜wear their own fabulous shoesโ€™ and embrace their unique path. That spirit shines on every page of her book, challenging each of us to lead with courage and with compassion

Key Takeaways from the Book

“As I read through My Gift of Bangles, I was struck by Millicentโ€™s unique way of weaving her life experiences into powerful lessons. Her book is filled with reflections and guidance that resonate deeply, and I would like to share a few key takeaways with you today:

Leadership is Earned, Not Given

Millicent reminds us that titles donโ€™t make leadersโ€”integrity and trust do. This book is a masterclass in leading with authenticity.

  1. Embrace Every Experience โ€“ Every โ€˜bangleโ€™ Millicent wears, from the sparkling to the rusty, represents a lesson. She teaches us to embrace both the wins and the setbacksโ€”they shape who we are.
  2. Stand Tall in Your Own Shoes โ€“ Millicent urges us all to walk proudly in our own paths. Her message is clear: own your story, build your legacy, and never apologize for it.
  3. Stay Curious and Keep Learning โ€“ Every chapter is a call to action to learn, reflect, and evolve. Millicent shows us that growth is a lifelong journey.
  4. Lead with Purpose โ€“ At its heart, My Gift of Bangles challenges each of us to think bigger, to lead with intention, and to leave a lasting impact that matters.”

Closing and Congratulations

Today, weโ€™re not just launching a book; weโ€™re unveiling a blueprint for leadership, resilience, and growth, all told through Millicent Clarkeโ€™s one-of-a-kind journey.

“Millicent, what youโ€™ve created here is more than a bookโ€”itโ€™s a beacon. Congratulations on this incredible accomplishment. Your story, your strength, and your vision will inspire leaders for generations.

I accept that we cannot all write about our journeys, but we can do something to help others. Sometimes it may be in a simple complement to someone which will bring a smile to his or her face.ย  Some of us we say thank you all the time, and not create opportunities for others to say thank you to us.ย  Some of us think we have a lot of time to impact our society.ย  I am here to give you what has lately been my refrainโ€ฆ Donโ€™t define your life with your age, with your birthdayโ€ฆ because if you are twenty years and God has planned to call you at 25, you are quite old.ย  If on the other hand you are 50 and God plans to call you home at 90, you are pretty young.ย  May I suggest that we define our lives by our death dateโ€ฆ since we donโ€™t know what that date is, I beg of you to be intentional about living and implementing your purpose.

Distinguished Ladies and gentlemen, every writer deserves at least one book launch in their life. Millie, may this event bring you fulfillment and joy.ย  Even more so when people start calling you about what a blessing your book has been to them

letโ€™s celebrate Millicent Clarke and the gift sheโ€™s given us. My Gift of Bangles is a must-read, a must-live, and a true treasure. Letโ€™s give her the applause she deserves!”

Graduate Management Program for Women in Early Career – Emotional Mastery

Introduction: Setting the Stage for Emotional Mastery

Good morning, everyone.

Itโ€™s a pleasure to be here. Today, Iโ€™m not just speaking as a leader with decades of experience but as someone deeply passionate about the often-overlooked quality that can determine the trajectory of your career: Emotional Mastery.

Emotional Mastery is more than a skillโ€”itโ€™s a mindset, a leadership multiplier that helps us thrive in complex and high-stakes environments. And yet, itโ€™s only recently that leaders have begun to recognize its value. Why? Because for years, we emphasized technical expertise over emotional awareness. But we now know that understanding, managing, and influencing emotionsโ€”our own and othersโ€™โ€”is the key to unlocking lasting success.

1. Self-Awareness: The Foundation of Emotional Mastery

Explanation: Self-awareness is about understanding who you are and how you impact others. This quality sets the foundation for all other aspects of Emotional Mastery because, as leaders, we shape the emotional climate around us.

Video Clip #1: Hidden Figures – Scene with the Judge (“Be the First”)

Show this clip after explaining Self-Awareness.

Context for the Clip: In this scene, Dorothy Vaughan persuades the judge to allow her to attend a segregated school by emphasizing her intent to be the “first” to break barriers. Her self-awareness and confidence in her capabilities empower her to make a compelling case.

Takeaway: Self-awareness often means understanding what makes you unique and using it to influence others positively. Dorothyโ€™s ability to articulate her vision with confidence mirrors the importance of knowing your value and the impact you bring to others. This is the foundation upon which Emotional Mastery is builtโ€”by knowing yourself, you gain the power to inspire and influence effectively.

2. Self-Management: Mastering Your Responses

Explanation: Self-management is the ability to regulate your emotions under pressure. This skill enables leaders to stay calm, focused, and resilient, even in high-stakes situations.

Video Clip #2: Hidden Figures – Bathroom Speech Scene

Show this clip after explaining Self-Management.

Context for the Clip: In this powerful scene, Katherine Johnson expresses her frustration with the unfair treatment she endures daily. Her emotional release, although raw, is a reminder of the mental strength she displays despite adversity.

Takeaway: Self-management isnโ€™t about suppressing emotions; itโ€™s about responding constructively even when emotions run high. Katherineโ€™s speech underscores how sometimes, self-management requires resilience amid challenges. Her ability to keep pushing forward, despite frustrations, demonstrates the strength it takes to remain composed and focused.

3. Social Awareness: Seeing Beyond Yourself

Explanation: Social awareness is about understanding the emotions and perspectives of others. As leaders, itโ€™s essential to connect on a deeper level with those around us, recognizing their individual experiences and motivations.

Video Clip #3: The Devil Wears Prada

Show this clip after explaining Social Awareness.

Context for the Clip: In this scene, Andy learns to navigate her boss Mirandaโ€™s highly demanding expectations. Initially oblivious to the complexities of her work environment, Andy gradually gains social awareness, understanding the nuances and pressures that drive Mirandaโ€™s behavior.

Takeaway: Social awareness involves seeing beyond your perspective to empathize with othersโ€™ motivations and challenges. Just as Andy learns to read the unspoken demands of her role, leaders must cultivate an awareness of team dynamics, using empathy to build stronger connections and to support those they lead.

4. Relationship Management: Building Influence and Trust

Explanation: Relationship management is the ability to build strong, trust-filled relationships. Itโ€™s about leading with empathy and creating a collaborative environment where everyone feels valued.

Video Clip #4: Erin Brockovich

Context for the Clip: Erin Brockovichโ€™s commitment to the community sheโ€™s helping is inspiring. Her sincere, empathetic approach establishes deep trust and respect with the families she advocates for.

Takeaway: Erinโ€™s ability to connect on a human level is a powerful example of relationship management. True leaders donโ€™t just give directions; they inspire loyalty by genuinely caring about the people they lead. Erinโ€™s approach highlights how influential we can be when we build relationships based on trust and respect.

Emotional Mastery as a Catalyst for Career Growth

To all the ambitious women here today, know that Emotional Mastery isnโ€™t merely a “nice-to-have.” Itโ€™s your toolkit for resilience, your competitive advantage, and your compass in navigating the complexities of leadership.

Final Action Points

As we conclude, here are four actionable steps to carry forward:

  1. Know Yourself Deeply โ€“ Cultivate self-awareness as your foundation.
  2. Control Your Reactions โ€“ Practice self-management to stay steady in storms.
  3. Empathize with Others โ€“ Use social awareness to understand and support others.
  4. Nurture Relationships โ€“ Lead by building genuine connections, not just by position.

Closing Remark:

Emotional Mastery is a journey, one that will transform not just your career but your entire approach to leadership. Embrace it fully, and youโ€™ll find that your impact as a leader will extend far beyond any role or title.

Thank you. I look forward to your questions and an engaging discussion.

Each video clip strategically enriches the presentation, offering vivid illustrations of Emotional Mastery principles in action. This structure provides clear, relatable examples, helping your audience connect deeply with the material and see how they can apply it in their own lives.

As we wrap up today, I want to share one final video. Itโ€™s a powerful reminder that weโ€™re all capable of achieving greatness, even in the face of significant challenges. This clip from the 2016 Rio Paralympics celebrates athletes who, despite physical limitations, have pushed beyond what many would believe possible. Their resilience, dedication, and relentless practice have led them to do extraordinary things. It reminds us that we, too, can cultivate Emotional Masteryโ€”no matter where we start. We just have to believe in our potential and be willing to put in the effort. Letโ€™s watch this clip together.”

Takeaways to Reinforce:

  1. Resilience in the Face of Obstacles โ€“ Just as these athletes overcame physical limitations, we can overcome emotional or psychological barriers. Emotional Mastery isnโ€™t about perfection; itโ€™s about persistence, resilience, and growth.
  2. Commitment to Practice โ€“ The path to mastering any skill, including Emotional Intelligence, requires consistent practice. Just as these athletes trained rigorously to reach the top, we must also practice self-awareness, empathy, and regulation.
  3. Embracing Vulnerability and Strength โ€“ These athletes showcase both vulnerability and incredible strength. In the same way, Emotional Mastery involves understanding and embracing our emotionsโ€”no matter how difficultโ€”while using them to strengthen our leadership.
  4. Inspiring Change in Ourselves and Others โ€“ When we embrace Emotional Mastery, we donโ€™t just transform ourselves; we inspire those around us. Just as these athletes inspire millions, your journey in developing Emotional Intelligence can have a ripple effect on your team and workplace.
  5. Belief in Potential โ€“ These athletes defied expectations by believing in their own potential. Similarly, the first step toward Emotional Mastery is the belief that we are capable of growth. With that belief, the possibilities are endless.

This video is an uplifting, memorable way to end the session, leaving everyone inspired to pursue Emotional Mastery with the same determination as the athletes in the video.

Graduate Management Program on Emotional Mastery 1024 904 David Attricki

Graduate Management Program on Emotional Mastery

Good Morning, Everyone.

Itโ€™s a true pleasure to be here. Today, weโ€™re diving into what I believe to be the game-changer for both personal and professional success: Emotional Mastery. Over my 30 years in HR and leadership, Iโ€™ve come to realize that technical skills and knowledge will only get you so far. Emotional Masteryโ€”understanding, managing, and using emotions constructivelyโ€”will take you to the next level.

Why Has It Taken So Long for Leaders to Embrace Emotional Mastery?

Historically, hard skills were prioritized. We focused on IQ, credentials, and expertise, dismissing emotions as secondary or even irrelevant. However, recent data is undeniable: leaders with high emotional intelligence consistently outperform others. As the world of work grows more complex, emotional skills have become essential for effective leadership, team collaboration, and resilience.

For this session, I am thinking of an old Chinese proverb often quoted in education:

โ€œI hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.โ€

This proverb is perfect for justifying the use of video clips, as it highlights the power of visual learning to make a lasting impact.:

“In the spirit of the proverb, ‘I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand,’ these video clips are here to deepen our understanding and help us remember the principles of Emotional Mastery more vividly. By seeing real-life examples, weโ€™re not just hearing about Emotional Masteryโ€”weโ€™re experiencing it, and thatโ€™s how true learning happens.”

What Emotional Mastery Is and Isnโ€™t

To help us all be on the same page, letโ€™s clarify what Emotional Mastery entails and what it does not.

  • Emotional Mastery Is about self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and building positive relationships. Itโ€™s having control over your responses, even in stressful situations.
  • Emotional Mastery Isnโ€™t about suppressing emotions or pretending to be calm when youโ€™re not. Itโ€™s not about ignoring feedback or pushing through without addressing your own or others’ emotional needs.

The Four Pillars of Emotional Mastery

Letโ€™s break down the four key pillars of Emotional Mastery and discuss practical steps for each.

Self-Awareness

  • Definition: Understanding your own emotions, strengths, weaknesses, values, and how they impact others.
  • Example of Self-Awareness: Letโ€™s say youโ€™re in a meeting, and you feel defensive when a colleague critiques your idea. A self-aware response would involve acknowledging your initial reaction, examining why you feel that way, and responding constructively.
  • How to Build It:
    • Journaling: Write down moments that triggered strong emotions. Reflect on what caused them.
    • Ask for Feedback: Get input from trusted colleagues or mentors on how your behaviors affect others.
    • Mindfulness Exercises: Practicing mindfulness helps you become more attuned to your thoughts and feelings.

Self-Management

  • Definition: The ability to regulate emotions and maintain control, even in challenging situations.
  • Example of Self-Management: In a high-stakes project that suddenly derails, rather than reacting with frustration or blame, self-management involves pausing, assessing, and communicating calmly.
  • How to Build It:
    • Pause and Breathe: Train yourself to take deep breaths before reacting. This reduces impulsive responses.
    • Reframe Negative Thoughts: When stressed, consciously replace negative thoughts with constructive alternatives. For instance, think โ€œThis is an opportunity to learnโ€ instead of โ€œThis is a disaster.โ€
    • Set Small Goals for Reaction Control: Start by committing to calm responses in smaller, less stressful situations and build from there.

Social Awareness

  • Definition: The ability to understand and empathize with the emotions of others.
  • Example of Social Awareness: Imagine a colleague is unusually quiet during a meeting. Rather than ignoring it or pressing them for answers, social awareness would lead you to check in with them afterward, allowing space for them to share.
  • How to Build It:
    • Practice Active Listening: During conversations, focus entirely on the speaker, avoid interrupting, and reflect back what theyโ€™re saying to show understanding.
    • Observe Non-Verbal Cues: Pay attention to body language and tone. Sometimes, peopleโ€™s words donโ€™t match their emotions.
    • Show Genuine Curiosity: Ask open-ended questions and show interest in the perspectives of others.

Relationship Management

  • Definition: Using emotional insights to build and maintain positive relationships, foster trust, and resolve conflicts.
  • Example of Relationship Management: Suppose thereโ€™s a disagreement between team members. Rather than letting it fester, relationship management means mediating the conversation to help them find common ground and maintain respect.
  • How to Build It:
    • Conflict Resolution Practice: Regularly engage in low-stakes conflict resolution exercises. Practice acknowledging both sides and finding solutions.
    • Recognize Achievements: Publicly recognize the contributions of your team members. This builds loyalty and trust.
    • Model Open Communication: Foster a work culture where everyone feels safe to express ideas and concerns.

Practical Checklist: Building Emotional Mastery

  1. Self-Reflection: Spend at least five minutes a day reflecting on how your emotions affected your actions and decisions.
  2. Seek Constructive Feedback: Regularly ask a mentor or trusted colleague for feedback on your emotional responses.
  3. Practice Empathy: Make it a habit to consider others’ perspectives before responding, especially during disagreements.
  4. Set โ€œCool-Downโ€ Triggers: Create reminders for yourself to pause, breathe, or step away briefly before reacting in high-stress situations.
  5. Engage in Empathy-Building Exercises: Try perspective-taking exercises, like imagining yourself in othersโ€™ shoes during meetings or difficult conversations.
  6. Invest in Relationship-Building: Regularly check in with your team members and colleaguesโ€”not just about work but also about how theyโ€™re doing personally.
